Bringing Lifesaving Care to Those Who Need It Most

For years, our organization has served the communities of Roatán, Honduras, in an effort to meet critical needs and improve quality of life.

Now, we're narrowing our mission to one of the greatest needs — partnering directly with the local public hospital to provide life-changing medical care to patients who can't afford treatment.

By covering the costs of essential procedures, medications, and equipment, we help ensure that no one is denied care simply because of their financial situation.

The Need

Roatán, Honduras, is home to a vibrant and diverse community of approximately 56,000 people. But like much of the country, the island faces serious economic challenges. According to the World Bank, nearly 50% of Honduras’s population lives in poverty (1) — and Roatán is no exception.

While private clinics exist on the island, their services are often beyond what most families can afford — and they typically don’t offer the specialized care required for emergencies or complex conditions. The only public hospital — the island's main source of affordable care — has long struggled with limited resources. As a result, patients sometimes face difficult choices, including:

• Going without necessary treatment
• Traveling to the mainland for care — an option that is often both costly and logistically difficult
• Delaying care until conditions become more serious or life-threatening

To add to these difficulties, in April of 2024, island healthcare suffered a devastating blow when a fire completely destroyed the public hospital. Thankfully, all patients were evacuated to safety, but the fire caused losses of an estimated 14 million Lempiras (~540,000 USD) in supplies and medicines and destroyed around 95% of the building. This left a significant portion of the 56,000 people on the island without affordable access to emergency, surgical, delivery, or inpatient care services (2).

The local and federal governments have begun construction on a new hospital, but there is a disparity between what government funding will cover and what the population needs.

This is where we step in.

Our mission is to help bridge that gap — by raising funds to equip the new hospital with essential medical tools, supplies, and support systems. With your partnership, we can restore access to lifesaving care for thousands of families who have nowhere else to turn.

How We're Helping

With years of combined experience in both healthcare and the Roatán community, our team is especially prepared to make a meaningful impact where it matters most. Our deep connection to both the medical field and the local community allows us to respond quickly and effectively to real needs on the ground.

Right now, as the new public hospital is under construction and care continues in a temporary facility, we are stepping in to:

• Purchase bulk medications and supplies when government funds run low
• Cover the cost of essential treatments for patients who cannot afford them
• Assist with emergency transport, including airlifts to the mainland for urgent care

Looking ahead, once the new hospital opens, we aim to help equip it with vital machines and diagnostic tools — so patients can receive quality care locally without the financial and physical strain of travel to the mainland.
